Backyard Trees, Oil on Gallery Canvas, 36x48 inches

Here is the forest that was behind the house I lived in a few years ago; I sat in my bedroom/studio on the wood floor and sketched the scene on the blank canvas. I could see the forest through my patio doors so it was a very familiar scene to me. I was transfixed by the variety and the vertical ebb and flow of the tree limbs. I incorporated the bird house that someone had nailed one of the trees and also elements of patterns in Spanish architecture. I did not reference Hundertwasser, specifically, but in my youth I frequently was exposed to his artwork through my relatives and family and I feel that his influence came out subconsciously here.
