“Hope”, Oil on Gallery Canvas, 48x36 inches

I derived this idea from the painting, “Christina's World,” by Andrew Wyeth, 1948. The girl is there to capture the serenity and ephemeralness of life and youth. She is confronted by the unknown; children are often unafraid of senseless wonder--she contemplates the mystery with confidence and little apprehension. In the space between the figure and the unknown shape no hand is reaching out, no means of connection is being offered. The painting ended up looking like me, even though I began the painting from imagination and only used my mirror to finalize the proportions.  Decadence vs. childhood freedom, simplicity and playfulness.
