Supreme Court Trees, Oil on Gallery Canvas, 48x36 inches

On a bright spring day in 2020 I decided to sit on the lawns of the Supreme Court; I sketched the pine trees because their branches created an interesting network of open spaces. Later, at home in my studio, my goal was to recreate the sensation I had felt ‘en plein air’--the crisp, cool, fresh blue sky contrasted against the solid, prickly trunks and tree limbs. Organic, natural shapes are juxtaposed against a strict, judicial setting.
